Weekly Coronavirus testing at the New Brunswick-Quebec boarder has yet to be enforced.

The rule came into effect on January 22 and requires those who cross the border for work or pre-approved trips to provide a negative test upon crossing.

Listuguj First Nation Chief Darcy Gray tells the tribune theres still a lot of unknowns – like if they even have the right to ask people for their results.

In a statement the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government says community members can cross without the test, but will be informed if that changes.

Officials on both sides have said for the time being, public health does not have the capacity to make testing  a priority.

In Quebec, if you’re not showing symptons, you won’t be tested in the first place

Dr. Dow says some vaccines are less effective against the variants so more people may need to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity than first thought.

He said there’s no firm evidence the variants are more deadly…but they are much more transmissable. That means wider spread means mortality will also rise.
