CAMP/NB-CHILD PORN SENTENCE RM / TRIBUNE TUES AM
A Blacklands man has been given jail time after being caught with child pornography.
48-Year-old Andy Grimes pled guilty to the charge and received 6 months behind bars.
According to the Tribune – A search of his property in 2019 found 7 images on his cell phone.
In addition to the jail sentence, Grimes must submit a sample of his DBA and be placed on the national sex offender registry for 10 years.
He is banned from using the internet for 5 years and forbidden from being where children would reasonably be found, as well as a 24 month supervised probation upon release.

CAM/NB FATAL CRASH SENTENCE GG/TRIB (MON 4PM)
A former Campbellton nurse has avoided jail time in a fatal head on crash in
2015 that claimed the life of Theresa Carrier. The Tribune reports 37-year-old Kendra MacDonald was sentenced to three years probation this morning after previously being found guilty of dangerous driving causing death in December. While no evidence was ever presented that she was impaired or suffering from medical distress, court heard MacDonald’s vehicle had been seen swerving on the road before crossing the centre lane on Route
11 near Dalhousie and colliding with the vehicle being driven by Carrier.
In addition to the three years probation, MacDonald was also banned from driving for three years, fined 1300-dollars and ordered to perform 240 hours of community service.

CAM/NB TURPIN RETRIAL GG/BNEWS (MON 4PM)
The retrial of an Eel River Bar man charged with killing the two year old daughter of his then girlfriend in 2004 got underway today in Fredericton.
41-year-old James Paul Turpin is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of Kenneday Ann Corrigan in Blissville. Turpin was originally found guilty of second degree murder in 2016, but that was overturned on appeal which cited lack of evidence to support the charge. Turpin has maintained the girl slipped in the tub, causing the severe brain injury she later died from, although that was disputed by doctors during his first trial.Turpin is now being retried on the lesser charge of manslaughter. Brunswick New s reports Turpin officially entered his not-guilty plea to the manslaughter charge this morning prior to the trial, by judge alone, getting underway.

SJ/CAMP/MIR/NB-MISSING PERSON FOUND DEAD UPD /GG/EDITSRM / RCMP MON AM
It’s been a tragic few days on the ice in New Brunswick. The RCMP confirmed on Sunday they had recovered the body of a 29-year-old Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël man from the ice off the Acadian Peninsula . The Mounties underwater Recovery team had been searching the area after the mans snowmobile was found under the ice near a bridge on Route 113 in Lamaque on Friday.
Meanwhile,a second person was also found deceased after the RCMP they were called about an ATV that went through the ice in Baxters’ Corner Northeeast of Saint, around 10am yesterday morning. Mounties say the 62-year-old man from Rothesay was was found deceased in teh water not far from where the ATV went through the ice.
NB-MEDICALLY ASSISTED DYING RM / BRUNSWICK NEWS TUES AM
A New Brunswick MP is making a last attempt to stop the expanded access to medically-assisted dying. The expansion would allow for people with mental illness to undergo the process.
Fundy-Royal MP Rob Moore tells Brunswick News – the changes to the law have been rushed with no scrutiny from MPs or hearing opinions from Canadians.
Some doctors say that offering medical assistance in dying is not good medicine.
The debate on Bill C-7 is expected for tomorrow and needs at least one more party to support it along with the Liberals in order to pass.
Moore says the conservatives hope to move an amendment that would eliminate the new provision.

A former Canadian Major League Pitcher from Moncton passed yesterday
Rhéal Cormier lost his battle against cancer at the age of 53.
Cormier pitched in the majors for 16 years, mainly with the Phillies and Expos. He was inducted into the The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012, ranking second all-time for games pitched by a Canadian, and was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 2014
During his time with the Expos, Cormier was involved with many New Brunswick school programs and served as a spokesman for teenage anti-suicide and anti-drug campaigns.

GOOD MORNING
There are 36 active cases of COVID-19in the province after five more cases were announced yesterday.
Three are connected to previous cases in the outbreak in the Miramichi…two people in their 40s and a person under 19. Two cases in the Moncton zone are people in their twenties and travel-related.
Three people in in hospitals with one in intensive care.
The province also says the vaccination roll out plan is gearing up this week to administer shots to over 10,000 New Brusnwickers. Those vaccinations will take place at 56 long-term care facilities and clinics for First Nation adults.

NB-RELAXED MASKS IN SCHOOLS RM / BRUNSWICK NEWS TUES AM
The new yellow phase restrictions in the province means relaxed rules for wearing masks in schools.
The Education Department tells Brunswick news students in kindergarten to grade 5 are not required to wear masks in class or common areas.
Middle schoolers aren’t required to wear them in class either but are required in common areas. High School students are only required if they cannot distance, as well as in common areas.
The news is welcomed by MLA Andrea Anderson-Mason who says she’s been receiving many questions from parents.

There’s been hesitation from nursing home workers to get their covid vaccine in the province
Nearly half of employees in some nursing homes have not completed their consent form for vaccination. They says there’s a lack of information about the new vaccines.
The New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes confirmed to CBC – that 90% of residents have received their vaccine, but only 55% of staff members have received shots. For the French-speaking Association of Special Care Homes, about 20% of employees have refused.
Reasons for refusal are varied, but many say a lack of information about the vaccine is at the root of the problem. Communication and information inconsistencies have caused some confusion among nursing home workers.

NB-TREE PLANTING EXPANSION RM / CBC MON PM
A New Brunswick Tree planting organization is expanding this year.
Jonathan Clark’s environmental company “Replant” planted 10 thousand trees in New Brunswick in 2020, and estimates 250,000 trees will be planted this year and another million in the next 2 years
Clarke tells CBC – “This year they’re expanding to at least five provinces including Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland.
Replant is currently working on two community forest projects in New Brunswick, that will take three years to complete. These parks will have picnic areas and trails for public use.
Clarke says there’s been an emphasis on planting hardwood trees, because Maritime softwood population are decline due to global warming.

NB-SCHOOL ABSENCES RM / BRUNSWICK NEWS MON AM
Schools in the province are reporting a high number of student absences during the latest spike in coronavirus cases.
According to Brunswick News – Some districts saw as much as a 15% increase in absentees, which accounts for 31,830 non-attendants.
While the lowest numbers for a distract was an 11.4% increase in Anglophone South.
Meanwhile – Francophone School District Northeast and South saw slightly better numbers than this time last year.
The actual reason why students are missing more time than ever is unclear because schools aren’t allowed to ask why they’re not showing up due to privacy laws.

The committee of medical experts in Ottawa may have recommended stretching out the time between doses of vaccines…but Pfizer Canada doesn’t.
Pfizer says conflicting information on how long patients should wait to get a second dose could confuse some people enough they don’t get a shot at all.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization said last week the second dose should be delayed up to four months so more people can get one dose faster. Pfizer recommends sticking to the original 21-day schedule, adding there’s no evidence how well one dose works more than two months away from getting it.

Jury selection has been delayed in the Minneapolis trial of the former police officer charged in George Floyd’s death.
There’s an appeal over the possible re-instatement of a third-degree murder charge. But Judge Peter Cahill says he will continue with jury selection in the trial of Derek Chauvin on Tuesday unless the appeals court tells him not to.
Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death.
Legal experts say re-instating the third degree charge would improve the odds of getting a conviction.
