CAM/NB – NGOLA INQUIRY
Lawyers for the doctor accused as patient zero in the Campbellton coronavirus
outbreak in May is calling for a public and criminal inquiry.
According to CBC lawyers Joël Étienne and Christian Michaud have written to
the Attorney General on behalf of Dr. Jean Robert Ngola to look into how the
case was handled.
Etienne claims there is evidence to prove Ngola’s was not patient zero yet
the doctors life was ruined by him being singled out by Premier Blaine Higgs.
Higgs, the Department of Health, Vitalité Health Network and RCMP are named
in the call for an inquiry. None commented saying the matter is before
courts.

CAM – SUSPICIOUS FIRE
Saint-Quentin RCMP are investigating a suspicious fire that took place in
Whites Brook on Monday.
Police say fire crews from Kedgwick and Saint-Jean- Baptiste were called to
the blaze on Route 17 that destroyed the home.
The building was unoccupied at the time so no injuries were reported, but
police have deemed the fire suspicious.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but RCMP are asking
anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.

CAM – FOX RUN
The Terry Fox Run will be going ahead in Campbellton this year, but as with
most events will look and feel much different then in the past.
Organizer Allan Dickson tells the Tribune the walk will be held on September
20th at Sugarloaf Park with physical-distancing in mind.
Due to the change the number of runners will be greatly reduced to meet
pandemic measures and Dickson says donation support will be needed this year
more than ever.
You can donate during the event or on Friday the 18th and the day of the walk
from 1-5 at Sobeys on Roseberry and Canadian Tire in Atholville.

CAM – LISTUGUJ FISHERY
Listuguj First Nation has announced they will begin the Lobster Food Fishery
on September 20th.
A release by the band says it will run for 14-days with 235-traps fished.
Last year’s fishery drew national attention when some of the catch was sold
with Chief Darcy Gray saying it fell under the treaty-right to make a
moderate living off the fishery.
Gray said at the time the fishing levels were consistent with the past
20-years of the fall harvest and work with DFO to sell some of the catch had
stalled.
There was no mention in the announcement of the potential commercial sale of
lobster this year.

NB – LEADERS DEBATE
The provincial leaders debate had very few big moments, but near the end
things got heated over a recently released MLA.
Liberal Leaders Kevin Vickers and People’s Alliance Leader Kris Austin said
the PC Leader Blaine Higgs is inconsistent in his practices when dealing with
transphobic social media postings.
The leaders pointed to Victoria-La Vallée candidate Roland Michaud recently
being taken of the PC ballot yet Restigouche-West candidate Louis Bérubé will
stay on despite comments he made in 2016.
Higgs said he was very prompt in dismissing Michaud and the Berube incident
was much later in time and although he doesn’t condone it Berube was
remorseful.
The rest of the debate focused on heathcare, education, and the pandemic.
Green Leader David Coon, NDP Leader Mackenzie Thomason and Austin all
appealed to voters not to allow a majority government.

NB – CANDIDATE GONE
First the PCs, then the Liberals, and now the People’s Alliance have dropped
a candidate for online comments.
The party says Memramcook-Tantramar’s Heather Collins is no longer a
candidate for the party after comments made towards Muslims immigrating to
Canada.
A post in 2019 by Collins said Muslim people are the only people let into
Canada and its sickening.
A spokesperson for the party said as soon as Leader Kris Austin was aware
Collins was no longer welcome.

NB/MIR – ATV TEEN DEATH
Tragedy in the Miramichi as a teenager has died after an ATV accident
yesterday afternoon.
Officials with the Miramichi Police tell CBC a 15-year-old boy was found dead
upon their arrival to the crash at the airport around 2pm.
Police say no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which remains under
investigation. No other details were released.
