CAM – CANADA DAY WRAP UP

The weather held up and Canada Day was celebrated on a beautiful day in
Campbellton and Dalhousie.

The activities at Riverside Park were well attended with the flag raising and
inflatable castles enjoyed by the kids. The pet show was a big hit with all
ages.

The Tribune reports in Dalhousie people came out for the Legionnaires parade
and flag raising that was followed by music and cake.

CAM – HALL OF FAME

The much anticipated Campbellton Sports Hall of Fame ceremony is in the books.

The event held at the Campbellton Regional Memorial Civic Centre saw the
induction of two individuals and one team.

The Tribune reports Doug Stewart was inducted for golf, Perry Kennedy for his
years coaching hockey, and the 1997-1998 championship winning Restigouche
River Rats.

The team went from worst to first, finishing their first year in 1996 in last
place, but turned things around the next year winning the MJAHL championship.

Each inductee was presented with a plaque that will hang in the Campbellton
Sports Hall of Fame room at the Campbellton Centennial Library.

NB – CARTOONIST FIRED
A popular editorial cartoonist says he was fired for what amounts to
censorship, but his former employer Brunswick News disputes the claim.

Micheal de Adder a freelance cartoonist says he was let go from the Irving
owned company shortly after his cartoon showing US President Trump playing
golf next to the dead bodies of migrants was released.

However Brunswick news says the story is not true calling it a false
narritive made up on social media. They claim they weren’t even offered the
cartoon of Trump and de Adder’s contract had simply come to an end.

NB – POWER HIKE DELAYED

The proposed rate hike of 2.5 percent NB Power wants has been put on hold
till at least next month.

CBC reports the the company made the application too late to the New
Brunswick Energy and Utilities Board meaning the increase can’t begin in July
as planned… if at all.

EUB chairperson Raymond Gorman says the application was filed three months
after it should have been therefore the board won’t grant the start date NB
Power wanted.

The board also says it has not made a decision on whether they will approve
all, part or none of the increase NB Power applied for.

CAM – APARTMENT BUILDING FIRE

20 people have been displaced after a fire at a Bathurst apartment building
yesterday.

CBC reports the stubborn fire was reported around 9:30AM on Monday and took
firefighters from Bathurst and several neighboring departments to knock down
the blaze.

The 12 unit building sustained extensive damage and resulted in two of the
residents being transported to hospital.

Emergency lodging and meals have been arranged by Red Cross volunteers, for
10 tenants of the apartment building.

*SJ-BAILOUT

New Brunswick Liberal Party leader is calling for an investigation into the
Saint John bailout.

The 22.8- million dollar bailout was organized by Kevin Vickers’ predecessor,
Brian Gallant, in March 2018.

An auditor general report’s raised concerns the deal was approved without
reviewing documentation from the city or legislative authority.

Global News also says the AG report says Premier Blaine Higgs should release
the findings of a working committee tasked with finding the city’s long-term
solutions to its debt.
